Did you know that eating 1200 calories every day signals your body that it is starving.  The result - Your body will do everything it can to drive you to food.  A different caloric intake every day will fool your body's set point.  For example, eat 1500 calories one day, 2000 the next and maybe 1700 the next.  Can the high fat, low carb diets work for me?  Yes and No.
These high fat, low carb diets require you to drink large amounts of water every day to prevent cellular dehydration and kidney damage.  Not all of us can make ourselves drink that much water.  And, these diets are lifelong diets.  Once you discontinue them the weight usually comes back and then some.  And for those of us who occasionally enjoy a piece of apple pie with ice cream this certainly isn't the diet for us.  Eating a few cookies once in a while won't hurt anyone.  However, eating the whole bag can present a problem, especially in the area around our middle and hips.  And of course once you give up some of your favorite desserts what happens?  You begin to crave it more and more.  This makes staying on the diet difficult at best.  So, what is the answer for weight loss?  After 100 years of research on the subject we have arrived back at our initial premise.  Eat less and exercise more.
